CFIA Updates Certificate Requirements for Meat/Poultry Containing Products
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated its documentation requirements for FDA-regulated products containing bovine, porcine, or poultry-derived ingredients destined for Canada. These changes are effective immediately and apply to FDA-issued Certificates to a Foreign Government (CFG).
To support CFIA’s verification process, export certificates must now include:
- Manufacturer/Processor Name & Address
The complete facility name and physical location where the product was manufactured or processed. - Exporter Name & Address
The legal name and physical address of the company exporting the product from the U.S.
These data elements are in addition to existing CFG requirements and are required at the time of certificate application.
How to Submit:
Industry can request applicable CFGs through the FDA’s HFP Export Certification Application and Tracking System (HFP eCATS).
Who Should Review?
Exporters of U.S. food products with meat, poultry, or related ingredients into Canada — including ingredient suppliers and contract manufacturers.
