SHENZHEN LOCKDOWN AND SHANGHAI PUDONG CLOSES TO INBOUND PASSENGER FLIGHTS

Based on current communication from our overseas offices  here is the latest news on the Shenzhen lockdown and Shanghai Pudong closure to inbound flight.

Lockdown background

In Shenzhen, a seven day lockdown began on Monday which led to the immediate shut down of most factories and warehouses.

Carriers and port terminals remain open for business, however staff are unable to leave their homes to go to work.  In addition, trucks from outside Shenzhen are unable to enter the the city.  With truck traffic to the docs interrupted, carriers are facing delays at the ports.

Inbound flights Impacted

Airfreight is also facing many new complications.  Inbound passenger flights into Shanghai Pudong airport are being rerouted to other Chinese cities.  Although freighters will not be affected, however this will definitely affect cargo because it will further reduce capacity for flights in and out of PVG.

Port Conditions Updates:

Shanghai WGQ: Moderate berthing waiting time about half to one day. W1 may need to wait longer.
Shanghai YS1: Minor vessel berthing delay about 0.5 – 1 day. 
Ningbo:  Terminals moderately congested, NBCT sometimes need to wait longer. MISCT empty yards fully utilized hence discharge vessel need to wait longer.
Qingdao: Terminals are under moderate berth congestion. Waiting time around 1 day.
Shekou: Port closed 13hrs on Mar 5 due to dense fog. berthing delay around 1.5 day. Yard at about 90-95% utilization.
Nansha: Port closed 13hrs on Mar 5 due to dense fog, moderate berthing delay by about half a day. Yard utilization healthy.
Yantian:  Berthing delay for mega sized ships by about 0.5 day. Yard density at about 80%.
Hong Kong:  3 berths are still closed in HIT due to lack of stevedore/gangs availability, resulting only 70% of normal resources available. Heavy berth congestion, delay around 3 -4 days
Pusan:  BNCT yard density is around 90%. Some straddle carriers brokedown, impacted productivity heavily. Berthing delay about 1.5 days.
Singapore: Congestion situation remains, berth waiting time about 2 day.
Manila:  MNS waits for 1 to 2 days for berthing. MNN waiting time about 1 day.
Port Kelang:  Operation normal. Laden yard density around 80%, berthing wait for 0.5 day
Kaohsiung: Yard utilization stable, occasional waiting or double berthing when yard density is high.
