On Tuesday July 14, 2020, President Donald Trump signed into law The Hong Kong Autonomy Act (HKAA). The HKAA imposes sanctions against individuals, entities and financial institutions that help China restrict Hong Kong’s autonomy.
President Trump has also signed an executive order ending U.S. preferential treatment of Hong Kong. This follows the May 27, 2020 certification by the Secretary of State under the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.
