German Transport Crippled by Strike

As Germany faced one of the largest transportation strikes in years, businesses across the country scrambled to find alternative solutions for their transportation needs. The strike, initiated by several German unions, led to the cessation of operations across various transportation sectors, including public transport and the aviation industry. This caused significant disruptions for commuters, businesses, and tourists alike, impacting the supply chain and the economy.

According to CNN, the transportation strike had a significant impact on cargo, with transportation systems disrupted and businesses facing challenges in the delivery of goods and services, leading to a potential decline in economic productivity. Moreover, the strike has deterred tourists from visiting the country, further negatively affecting the tourism industry.

Large ships couldn’t get in or out of port, several airports simply closed their doors, tram, rail and underground were all shut down and this left people and freight, along with the economy, at a standstill.

The next step in the process now that talks have broken down and strike action was taken is to move to mediation. The mediators will have three weeks in which to lead both parties to a resolution and during that time, no strikes are permitted. However, many analysts believe that mediation will also fail and we need to prepare for more disruption. Now is the time to double check your supply chain resiliency and prepare if you move goods in, out, or through Germany.
