Daniel Cooke

December 12, 2024

Resolution C-24-01 for the conservation of tropical tuna, including bigeye, yellowfin, and skipjack, in the Eastern Pacific Ocean would affect large purse seine vessels in class sizes 4-6, and longline vessels over 24 meters/78ft that plan to target tropical tuna during 2025-2026.  Key measures of the resolution include:

  • 72-Day fishing closure for purse seine vessels
  • Catch limits for bigeye tuna caught by longline vessels
  • Fish Aggregating Device per-vessel number restrictions
  • Retention requirements necessitating all tropical tuna be retained and landed with some minor exceptions
