The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued the final Risk Evaluation for Formaldehyde under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).  The EPA’s evaluation assessed whether formaldehyde poses an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment, excluding economic or non-risk factors – the risks identified were:

  • Acute Exposure: Non-cancer health effects are a significant concern.
  • Chronic Exposure: Long-term inhalation is linked to cancer risks.

To address these risks, the EPA will initiate risk management actions to mitigate exposure and ensure public safety.

Stakeholders, including businesses and individuals, are encouraged to engage in the process and provide comments – the original information is available here
