If you’re a USDA organic certifier or certified operation, please be aware of a phishing scam currently operating. The scam is using a fake USDA sender address and the subject line: USDA-NOP Certificate Holder Information verification
These emails use the USDA logo to appear legitimate, and are ask recipients to verify certain information. They include the threat of suspension of organic certification. Note: they do not come from an official USDA email address that would include the domain @usda.gov.
USDA, AMS, and NOP emails only come from the “usda.gov” domain.
Be sure to review the actual email address inside brackets <>—not just the display name.
If you’ve already clicked or shared info, please:
Report it to your IT department
Reset passwords
Run a malware/virus scan ASAP
If ever in doubt, verify through your certifier or USDA Accreditation Manager.
