Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any movement in the negotiations to reopen the government. We continue to monitor developments and have some updates on trade-related department operations:
- Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Department of Homeland Security
Cargo inspections, tariff collection, and port operations all continue. Non-essential planning, audits, and policy work are paused. CBP has advised that rulings, petitions, and enforcement activities will move forward, though clearance delays may occur with partner government agencies (PGAs) - Consumer Product Safety Commission:
Import surveillance, product screening, and most compliance activities are suspended except where imminent threats to safety exist - Department of Commerce:
Export enforcement and national security-related investigations will proceed, but most International Trade Administration, Census, and Bureau of Economic Analysis services are suspended - Federal Maritime Commission (FMC):
All FMC employees have been furloughed. Licensing, service contract filings, complaint handling, and database updates are halted until further notice - International Trade Commission:
The Harmonized Tariff Schedule and active litigation will be maintained. Most investigations, technical assistance, and new casework are paused - State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls:
Licensing and registration services are significantly curtailed. Only actions directly tied to national security will continue - US Department of Agriculture:
Import/export operations supported by user fees will continue, but many Foreign Agricultural Service and regulatory activities are suspended - US Trade Representative
Negotiations tied to active trade agreements will continue. Routine engagements and administrative tasks are on hold
