The US Department of Commerce has launched a Section 232 national security investigation into certain medical product imports, including:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – masks, respirators, gloves, gowns, and related components
- Medical Consumables – syringes, needles, infusion pumps, IV bags, catheters, bandages, lab reagents
- Medical Equipment – hospital beds, wheelchairs, crutches, and similar items
- Medical Devices – any FDA-regulated device, including blood glucose monitors, pacemakers, hearing aids, X-ray, and MRI machines
This investigation will evaluate whether US reliance on imports in these categories poses a risk to national security, and could result in a review of current tariff levels on these products.
