CBMA Import Refunds: Q4 Filing Is Now Open in myTTB

Importers can now file for assigned CBMA tax benefits on eligible Q4 entries.

If you import beverage alcohol into the U.S. and receive CBMA benefit assignments from foreign producers, a key filing window is now open.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has announced that importers can now submit CBMA Importer refund claims for eligible entries made during the fourth quarter (October 1–December 31).

CBMA allows certain federal excise tax advantages to be passed from qualifying foreign producers to U.S. importers, who may then request a refund when those benefits apply to imported products.

What’s New

Importers can now file Q4 claims using the CBMA Importer Claims System inside myTTB, TTB’s online platform for submissions and filings.

To help importers navigate the process, TTB has released updated resources, including a detailed walkthrough for submitting claims using the standard filing method. TTB also outlines an alternate approach for limited scenarios where the standard method cannot be used.

Don’t Forget: Account Access Must Be Set Up First

Before a claim can be submitted, importers should confirm they have access configured properly in myTTB, including:

  • an active myTTB account
  • an activated importer entity
  • approved users assigned to prepare and submit claims

If your team has not completed setup, you may need to take these steps before attempting to file.

Recommended Next Steps for Importers

To stay ahead of processing delays, importers should consider:

  • confirming Q4 entry data is complete and accurate
  • validating CBMA assignments received from foreign producers
  • ensuring your internal documentation supports the claim submission
  • reviewing the myTTB filing instructions before submitting
