A settlement was reached with a domestic U.S. bicycle manufacturer who was requesting a restriction on assembled bicycles valued at under $400. The request had come as a Section 201 petition. The petition sought restrictions on fully assembled and partially assembled bicycles in the form of duty increases, with a quota and sever duty increase after the quota was met.
The International Trade Commission hears these petitions and is only authorized to make recommendations to the President, who can choose whether import restrictions are appropriate. As a result of the settlement agreement, no additional adverse duty action is expected with regard to bicycles.
