POSSIBLE CALIFORNIA PORT STRIKE OPPOSING AB5 ON NOVEMBER 4TH, 5TH AND 6TH
Please be informed for a possible port boycott, supported by Independent Owner Operators throughout California, affecting the Port of Oakland, Los Angeles and Long Beach. The strike is designed to protests the stricter set of requirements contained within AB 5, regarding classification of employees.
California Assembly Bill 5 is a California law which limits the use of classifying workers as independent contractors rather than employees by companies in the state. It will take effect January 1, 2020.
At this time we have no specific information as to the companies or drivers that may participate, scope, depth, and terminals involved in the strike. Alba Wheels Up is monitoring the situation and will keep you posted, and is sending this announcement for awareness on any port congestion that may occur on the above dates.
