It is part of Alba’s mission to proactively notify the importing community and our customers when market issues could impact your supply chain. We need to make you aware of port congestion and equipment shortages on the East and West Coasts causing logistical challenges for shippers, BCOs, and NVOs alike.
Due to port congestion and equipment shortage, truckers are now charging an additional port congestion surcharge. Some truckers will not handle pick and drops but will only deliver if a live unload, chassis will not be sacrificed and left at delivery location.
Attached is the West Coalition Letter to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, signed by many West Coast stakeholders, the Pacific Coast Council of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders, the Agriculture Transport Coalition, and others, suggesting specific courses of action to address the chassis shortage, the appointment system and blank sailings.
Alba has been part of these discussions and have been active in trying to solve the problem and remains diligent in assisting our importers navigate thought these challenging conditions.
