U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is amending its regulations requiring the U.S. Postal Service to transmit advance electronic data for certain inbound international mail shipments to CBP within specified time frames.
The AED required by this rule consists of two elements: (1)information already collected through the customs declaration forms attached to incoming mail, and (2) information about the movement of the package.
The required AED must be provided to CBP as soon as practicable but no later than prior to loading the inbound shipment onto the transporting conveyance.
This interim final rule took effect March 15, and comments are due no later than May 14, 2021.
